This workshop exercise is designed to show how real-time optimization may be used to minimize cost in steam generation when the steam load is to be allocated to two boilers with different operating efficiencies.
Step 1: Observe the impact of boiler load allocation on fuel consumption for a constant steam demand of 200 T/h.
Step 2: Examine the cost of generating 200 T/h of steam when only Boiler 1 or Boiler 2 is in service.
Step 3: Change the steam demand in steps from 100 to 300 T/h and observe how the steam load is allocated by the optimizer to minimize the cost of steam generation.
